TEDxUtrecht inspires with world class speakers

Massoud Hassani and Andrei Herasimchuk attending on 8 November

10 SEPTEMBER 2012, UTRECHT
Summary
On November 8, the very first TEDxUtrecht ever will take place, with the theme ‘Full creative potential’. TED Conferences (‘Technology, Entertainment, Design’) are worldwide considered breeding places for creative and innovative solutions that change the world. TEDxUtrecht achieves so by inviting a carefully composed, exceptional compilation of speakers. In addition to Massoud Hassani and Andrei Herasimchuk, among others Brendan Dawes, Reint Jan Renes and Todd Kashdan will make an appearance.

“We are extremely proud we can welcome Massoud Hassani, the young, talent full designer from Afghanistan,” says Arjan Haring, one of the initiators of the TED-variant in Utrecht. Hassani designed the ‘Mine Kafon’. With this apparently simple, but very effective device, land mines can be deactivated. In this way, the Afghan designer already saved many lives. He will, as well, tell his inspiring story at a TED-event in the United States later on.

Another speaker is Andrei Herasimchuk, Director of design of the successful Twitter platform, with more than twenty years experience in designing software. His motto is: ‘Think from the center, design for the edge’. Furthermore, Brendan Dawes (digital artist), Reint Jan Renes (Professor cross media communication) en Todd Kashdan (Professor of psychology) will appear on the TEDxUtrecht stage.

“TEDxUtrecht aims to inspire and activate CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists and all other TEDx fans to give creativity an (even) more prominent place in their daily lives,” says Mischa Coster, co-initiator and head of communications. “We chose ‘think big’, ‘creative solutions’, ‘embrace the weird’ and ‘free your mind’ as subthemes to fill in ‘Full creative potential’. Everyone who yearns for creative and innovative solutions will be inspired on 8 November 2012.”

The full list of speakers can be found at the website www.tedxutrecht.com. At November 8 all speakers will be broadcasted live via live stream. Besides, the organization will provide a live cast at a few satellite locations. A limited amount of tickets is available to attend TEDxUtrecht. Persons interested can sign up for the conference through the website shortly. A panel will decide which applicants will receive a ticket for the event.

About TEDxUtrecht

Everyone has a special spark that makes you leave the beaten track. Explore new ideas. Get inspired by the most outspoken creative minds.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxUtrecht, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxUtrecht event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
